Transitions

Transitions

Overview

Transitions are to an essay as mortar is to a wall: it holds it all together and allows one idea to be joined smoothly to another.  These transitional words or phrases should be used OFTEN in your writing — about once every other sentence for those folks who experience issues with organization.  They function essentially like “road signs,” tellingyour reader essentially, “This is what this sentence is FOR.”  Very helpful!
